got a problem with smoke ?
Reverse draw (also called downdraft or backdraft) happens when the airflow in a chimney reverses or becomes too weak.
Instead of smoke and gases leaving through the chimney, they are pushed back into the room.
Common causes
Strong wind or outside air pressure
Unusual weather conditions
Cold chimneys or poor draft
Chimneys that are too short
Lack of airflow to the appliance
How to avoid
Warm the flue before lighting the fire
Use dry kindling to establish a hot fire quickly
Consider fitting an anti-downdraft cowl
Ensure the chimney height is adequate (typically at least 4.5m)
